OUGD401 Analysing past dissertations

Nathan Bolton
2013/14
Is print still relevant within the digital age?

They have used a contents page to order their dissertation also by
using chapters etc.

The introduction starts abruptly and a brief response to the question
throughout the introduction references are used correctly and often which
at this point could suggest a structure of research and supporting
material for their essay.

The structure of the dissertation is very strange the paragraphs start
extremely short almost half heartdly written these could be combined
instead of short paragraphs i feel the structure could be improved.

To reflect on this to be successful i need to use more references, I feel
there could be more supporting references to create a large body to my
essay Bolton has used lots of quotes I think this would be good to include
in my own essay.

Benjamin McKean
2011/12
Aurthorship and Graphic Design

This essay is referenced extremely well, it is written academically and
has a formal tone of voice.

The grammar and structure appears clear and well written they have used
a lot of quotes which shows thorough research they have annotated the
research clearly, using such quotes has strengthened their dissertation.

This appears to be very well written the vocab used is very varied and uses
complex words there is also good use of grammar and formality. This is a
very good example in my opinion and I should consider taking influence
into my current essay.

OUGD401 Proposal

What is your research question?
"What is the relationship between branding and the consumer self?"

From the question which area would you like to answer?

Branding

I'd like to create a brand using techniques that big brands use to entice and
relate to consumers, such as a food label or clothing brand. e.g. Gucci

Hypothesis?

What are the contexts of your research what do you intend to research?
And how will it relate to your written work?

As I have written my essay on such loyalties and tactics brands use I will
use annocedotes to connect to both my essay and practical question I have
chosen to write about the connection between teenager I think this would
be the best target audience for my practical due to the knowledge I already
have. I'd like to show what I have spoken about graphically.

I will also research into the design of popular brands such as logos etc.

I will also ask my peers what brands they associate with and why? also
what impact it has on their lives alongside asking questions such as how
they think they relate to it why they buy it why they like it? I will create
survey which I can do online for young adults to fill in.

I intend to use my research to create a brand which is relatable to teenagers
and young adults which also utilises tactics used from other popular brands.
such as colour association and shape.

To create my intended proposal I will need to do some sketches for logo ideas
and possible things the logo could be used on such as bags, shoes, website
stationary etc a good example for this would be jack wills. I will need to
create a refined idea with supported material I will print this in the print room
in college to be presented with my dissertation.

My next step is to consider creating a time plan to balance both COP and other
subjects. To make sure I finish well before the hand in in may.
